Getting Started

What are security screens?

Security screens are reinforced window and door screens designed to provide a physical barrier against forced entry while still allowing fresh air, natural light, and visibility.

Unlike conventional screens, which are primarily designed to keep insects out, security screens use high-strength stainless-steel mesh secured within a heavy-duty frame. They can be installed over windows and doors to strengthen some of the most vulnerable entry points of a home or business without the look and feel of bars or grilles.

How are security screens different from standard window and door screens?

Standard screens are primarily designed to keep insects out and aren't intended to resist significant force. Security screens are specifically engineered to provide a much stronger physical barrier.

The systems we offer use high-strength stainless-steel mesh secured within a reinforced frame, providing substantially greater resistance to impacts, cutting, and attempts to pull the mesh from the frame. You still retain the everyday benefits of a screen—including airflow, visibility, and insect protection—but with an added layer of security.

What types of security screens does Rome Security Co. offer?

Rome Security Co. offers custom security solutions for both windows and doors, with options designed to accommodate a wide range of opening types, sizes, and architectural styles.

Our window security screens can protect both fixed and operable windows, including options that allow emergency egress where needed. Security screen doors are available for hinged, sliding, and other door configurations. Every screen is custom measured and fabricated for the individual opening rather than being an off-the-shelf product.

What makes Rome Security Co.'s security screens different?

Our security screens combine high-strength stainless-steel mesh with a patented fastening system that securely clamps the mesh into the frame. Rather than relying on a rubber spline or similar retention method found in conventional screens, the system is designed to absorb and distribute force throughout the frame when subjected to impact.

Just as importantly, every screen is custom measured, fabricated, and professionally installed for the individual opening. The result is a security solution designed to add meaningful physical protection while preserving the airflow, visibility, and appearance you'd expect from a screen.

Do you have a physical showroom?

Rome Security Co. does not currently operate a retail showroom. Instead, we've designed our process to make it easy to explore your options from home—starting with an Instant Estimate or Intro Call, followed by an on-site visit when you're ready to take the next step.

During your on-site visit, we'll bring product samples so you can see and handle the materials in person before making a final decision.

Can I see your security screens in person?

Absolutely. We bring samples of our window security screens and security screen doors to on-site appointments so you can see and handle the products before moving forward.

You'll be able to get a firsthand look at the mesh, frame, finish, visibility, and overall construction—and we'll be there to answer questions and discuss which options make the most sense for your home or business.

What are your hours of operation?

Our standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

We understand that home projects don't always fit neatly into the workweek, so evening or weekend appointments and installations may be available by arrangement. Contact us and we'll do our best to find a time that works for your schedule.

Do I need an appointment to meet with you?

Yes. Rome Security Co. operates by appointment so we can give each customer and project our full attention.

You can start by scheduling a virtual Intro Call to discuss your needs and ask questions. When you're ready to move forward, we'll schedule an on-site visit to review your property, take precise measurements, show you product samples, and confirm the details of your project.

Products & Security

How strong are your security screens?

Our security screens are engineered to withstand significantly more force than conventional window and door screens. They use high-tensile woven stainless-steel mesh mechanically secured within a heavy-duty frame, allowing impact forces to be distributed throughout the screen rather than concentrated at a single point.

Depending on the product selected, Crimsafe's current residential systems have been independently tested to withstand hundreds of foot-pounds of impact—far beyond the force a standard insect screen is designed to resist.

How do security screens help protect against break-ins?

Security screens add a strong physical barrier over vulnerable windows and doors that an intruder might otherwise try to force, cut, pry, or kick through.

Unlike alarms and cameras, which can alert you to or record an attempted break-in, security screens are designed to physically resist entry while still allowing you to use your windows and doors for ventilation and visibility. No security product can guarantee that a break-in will never occur, but a properly fitted security screen can make gaining entry substantially more difficult and less likely.

Can security screens be cut or kicked through?

Our security screens are specifically engineered and tested to resist cutting, kicking, and other forms of forced entry.

Crimsafe's high-tensile stainless-steel mesh has undergone knife-shear, impact, and jimmy testing, while its patented Screw-Clamp™ system mechanically secures the mesh to the frame and distributes impact forces around the screen. While no security product should be described as impossible to defeat, these systems are designed to provide an exceptionally strong physical barrier against forced entry.

Will security screens affect my view or airflow?

Security screens will have some effect compared with a completely open window or door, but they're designed to preserve both visibility and ventilation.

The black stainless-steel mesh is intentionally non-reflective and, under normal lighting conditions, provides a clear view through the screen. Testing of the mesh also found that it allows approximately 53% airflow, so you can continue enjoying fresh air through secured windows and doors.

Do security screens keep insects out?

Yes. In addition to providing security, the fine stainless-steel mesh also acts as an insect screen.

Crimsafe's mesh has been tested against mosquitoes and prevented 99% of mosquitoes from passing through during the test period. The mesh also helps exclude flies and substantially reduces the number of other insects and pests that can enter through an open window or door.

Are security screens pet-resistant?

Yes. The stainless-steel mesh is dramatically more resistant to claws, scratching, and impact than conventional insect screening, making security screens an excellent option for homes with dogs, cats, and other pets.

They can also provide a strong barrier that allows you to enjoy an open window or door without relying on lightweight insect mesh to keep a pet safely inside. Crimsafe specifically rates its mesh as resistant to penetration by dogs, cats, and birds using their claws or beaks.

Can I still exit through a secured window in an emergency?

Yes - when emergency egress is required, we can provide security window screens specifically designed to allow quick exit from inside the home while remaining secure from the outside.

Crimsafe's Safe-S-Cape® system uses a keyless, single-action release that can be operated from inside to open the security screen in an emergency. We'll account for emergency-egress needs when evaluating your windows and recommend the appropriate configuration for each opening.

Can security screens help reduce heat and UV exposure?

Yes. The stainless-steel mesh provides some solar shading in addition to its security benefits.

Manufacturer testing shows that the mesh can reduce solar heat gain by up to 53% and filter up to 62% of UV radiation, depending on the application and conditions. That can help reduce direct solar heat entering through screened windows and provide additional protection from UV exposure while maintaining outward visibility and airflow.

What colors and styles are available?

Security screen frames are available in three standard powder-coated finishes: White, Bronze, and Adobe Tan, allowing the frame to coordinate with many common window, door, and exterior finishes.

The high-tensile stainless-steel mesh is black across all configurations. Its dark, non-reflective finish is intentional, helping minimize glare and preserve visibility through the screen.

Instant Estimates & Pricing

How does the Instant Estimate work?

Our Instant Estimate gives you a quick way to understand the approximate cost of your security screen project before scheduling an appointment.

Simply provide some basic information about the windows or doors you'd like to secure, including their approximate size and configuration. We'll use those details to calculate an estimated project price based on the information you provide.

No on-site visit is required to get started, and you can complete the process on your own time.

How accurate is my Instant Estimate?

Our Instant Estimate is designed to provide a realistic indication of what your project is likely to cost based on the information and measurements you provide.

Because every security screen is custom-made for its opening, your final price may change after we verify measurements, configurations, installation requirements, and other project details. Before anything is ordered, we'll provide final pricing based on the confirmed specifications of your project.

What affects the cost of security screens?

Security screens are custom made, so pricing depends on several factors, including the size and type of each opening, the screen or door configuration, product options, and installation requirements.

Larger or more complex openings generally cost more than smaller, straightforward installations. Your Instant Estimate accounts for the information you provide up front, and we'll confirm the specific requirements and final pricing before your screens are ordered.

Is there a cost or obligation to receive an estimate?

No. Our Instant Estimate is free and comes with no obligation to purchase.

It's simply a convenient way to explore security screen options and get an initial understanding of project cost before deciding whether you'd like to take the next step.

What happens after I receive my Instant Estimate?

If you'd like to move forward after receiving your Instant Estimate, the next step is to schedule an Intro Call. We'll discuss your project, answer any questions, and make sure security screens are a good fit for what you're looking to accomplish.

From there, we'll schedule an On-site Measurement to evaluate your windows or doors, take precise measurements, review product options, and confirm your final project details and pricing. Once everything is approved, your custom security screens can be ordered and we'll coordinate your Pro Install when they're ready.

Installation

Can security screens be installed on my existing windows and doors?

In most cases, yes. Security screens are custom measured and fabricated to fit your existing window and door openings, so replacing the window or door itself is typically not necessary.

During your On-site Measurement, we'll evaluate each opening, determine the appropriate screen configuration and mounting method, and identify any conditions that could affect installation before your screens are ordered.

Why is an on-site measurement required before ordering?

Every security screen is custom fabricated for a specific opening, so precise measurements are essential for proper fit, operation, and security.

During your On-site Measurement, we'll verify dimensions, inspect the existing window or door and surrounding structure, determine the appropriate mounting method, and confirm any other details needed for fabrication and installation. This also allows us to confirm your final project specifications and pricing before anything is ordered.

How long does installation typically take?

Installation time depends on the number and type of security screens being installed, as well as the conditions at each opening. Many projects can be completed in a single day, while larger or more complex projects may require additional time.

We'll review the scope of your project in advance and provide a better idea of what to expect when your installation is scheduled.

Do I need to be home during installation?

We recommend that you or another authorized adult be available at the beginning of the installation to provide access and review any necessary project details with the installer.

Depending on the scope of the project and which openings are being secured, you may not need to remain home for the entire installation. We'll discuss access requirements and what to expect with you before your scheduled installation.

Will installation damage or permanently alter my existing windows or doors?

Security screens are designed to integrate with existing window and door openings, but professional installation typically requires the screen frame and associated hardware to be securely fastened to the surrounding structure.

Our installers will use the appropriate mounting method for each opening and work to minimize unnecessary alterations while ensuring the screen is properly secured. During your On-site Measurement, we'll identify any unusual installation requirements and discuss them with you before your screens are ordered.

Lead Times & Scheduling

How long does the process take from ordering to installation?

Our typical fabrication lead time is approximately 4–6 weeks from the time your order is placed. Once your custom security screens are ready, we'll coordinate your Pro Install as soon as scheduling allows.

Lead times can vary depending on seasonality, order volume, product configuration, and other factors. We'll provide the most current lead-time estimate before your order is placed and keep you updated throughout the process.

Why are security screens made to order?

Every window and door opening is a little different, and a security screen needs to fit and attach properly to provide the protection it's designed for.

Rather than using standard, off-the-shelf sizes, each security screen is fabricated to the measurements and specifications confirmed during your On-site Measurement. This allows the finished product to account for the size, configuration, mounting requirements, and selected options for each individual opening.

Can security screens be installed year-round?

Yes. Security screens can generally be installed year-round, including during the cooler months.

Because installation takes place at existing window and door openings, severe weather or other site conditions may occasionally require an appointment to be rescheduled. We'll monitor conditions when necessary and work with you to find the next suitable installation time.

Financing & Payment

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Rome Security Co. offers flexible financing through Affirm, allowing eligible customers to spread the cost of their project over time rather than paying the full amount at once.

If you choose Affirm, you'll be able to review available payment plans and terms before making a decision. Eligibility, payment options, and interest rates vary based on the customer and purchase amount.

When is payment due?

A 50% deposit is required before your custom security screens are ordered. The remaining balance is due upon completion of your installation.

If you choose to finance your purchase through Affirm, your payment schedule will instead be based on the financing terms you select and agree to with Affirm.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept several convenient payment methods, including credit and debit cards and ACH bank payments. Eligible customers can also choose Affirm at checkout to pay for their purchase over time.

Available payment options will be displayed on your invoice, allowing you to choose the method that works best for you.

Warranty & Care

What warranty comes with my security screens?

Your purchase includes complementary coverage from Rome Security Co. and Crimsafe, manufacturer of the proprietary components used in our security screens.

Rome Security Co. provides lifetime coverage for workmanship and forced-entry damage, while Crimsafe provides a 10-year warranty for material defects, subject to its warranty terms and care requirements.

If you ever have a warranty or service concern, contact Rome Security Co. first. We'll review the issue and coordinate the appropriate next steps, including any applicable Crimsafe warranty claim.

How do I clean and care for my security screens?

Proper care helps maintain the appearance and performance of your security screens and preserve applicable manufacturer warranty coverage.

Clean your screens periodically with warm water, a mild non-abrasive cleaner, and a soft brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive or strong solvent-based cleaners. Homes near saltwater or other corrosive environments may require more frequent cleaning.

For recommended maintenance intervals and complete care instructions, see the Care Guide.

After Your Installation

What should I do if my security screen is damaged or needs service?

Contact Rome Security Co. first if your security screen is damaged, isn't operating properly, or otherwise needs service. We'll review the issue and help determine the appropriate next steps.

Depending on the cause and type of damage, the repair may be covered by Rome Security Co.'s lifetime coverage or a 10-year warranty from Crimsafe (our proprietary components manufacturer). If another type of service or repair is needed, we'll help identify the best solution and coordinate it with you.

Can I add more security screens later?

Absolutely. You don't need to secure every window or door at once. You can start with the areas that matter most to you and add additional security screens over time.

When you're ready to expand your project, contact us and we'll help you plan the next phase. Because each security screen is custom made for its opening, new screens can be measured, fabricated, and installed as needed.
